The carvers
From 24 March till 4 April, the carvers will be at work:
Bit by bit, from top to bottom, the sculptures are been given their final shapes. All wooden forms will be taken away, only the sand will stay, unsupported by any structure or additive.
With an incredible patience, the finest details will be carved: expressions in faces, perfect architectural forms, human bodies according to perfect proportions, animals that seem alive, masks that give you goose pimples, perfectly detailed jewellery… Even if you have had the chance to see carvers working sand, you will be greatly astonished by the marvellous works you will see in Le Touquet. You will be able to see for yourself the very best performance in the world of Sand Sculpture.
Within this professional, confidential yet global scene, we have selected all of our carvers with greatest care. Today, in Le Touquet, we are proud to present an international team composed of outstanding artists from Belgium , Holland , Italy , the United Kingdom , Spain , Hungary , Malta , Finland , Poland , Russia , Ukraine , Canada and Mexico .
Each one of them has his own specialty. For one, it is anatomy, for another one it is architecture, a third one excels in general composition. Thanks to working in a team, their talents are combined into one sculpture, into one scene or into one composition. This way, the specifics of everyone are mingled and the result is marvellous, each detail having been created by the expert.
If you think that the multitude of languages forms a serious handicap to the realization of the sculptures, you couldn't be more wrong! The common denominator of all the sculptors being their artistic expression, they manage to communicate through the sculpture, through art, through the sand, through the languages, through any imaginable barrier.
